The trip starts relatively early, 7:30am, but that's ok by me since I'm still a little bit jet-lagy, so getting up early is no problem. We leave from the Tresidder parking lot at Stanford, and after a 2 hours drive we arrive at the Pinnacles. It's been promised to be a very nice day, and indeed it turned out to be fairly sunny. Right in the sun you're just fine in shorts and T-Shirt.
The rock is really pleasant for your feet, quite comfortable feet all over the place. But it's rather dirty and sandy. So each time you're searching for the next hand your fingers loosen grains of sand and stuff, hitting your eyes and getting inside your ears. Maybe I should've worn sunglasses. From time to time even bigger rocks fall down, falled by an avalanche of dirt, so wearing a helmet is quite recommended!
Several people are watching us from the hiking trails. They are taking pictures, and from time to time the wind draws over some "Jees! Look at that!". That's when climbing is fun :-) Besides from that, many kids are around, totally fascinated by the phenomenon known by "echo", which they apparently experienced for the first time...
I'm pleased because I manage to do all of my four climbs on-sight, despite of having climbed toprope "only".
